Little Birdie’s tea towels & dish cloths by Lizzy

I love little birdie’s & they make a sweet motif to adorn a gift for any age. For my Mum I chose to put them on some plain tea towels & micro fibre dish clothes…really cheap packs from Matalan

Just draw a simple bird shape…also a small wing as a template & raid your scraps…we have amassed a big bag full of small snippets just right for this.
We Never ever throw a piece of fabric away until its minute! 😁

Chose fabrics to contrast with what your embellishing…I like small ditzy florals or polka dot prints, chose another fabric for the teenie tiny wing

You will need some Heat n Seal which I also hoard all my small scrapes for this sort of sewing project, I find it easiest to pin template to fabric then lay on piece heat n seal then roughly cut round ( once you iron fabric too it it’s way easier to cut a nice neat crisp edged birdie

Following instructions for the heat n seal add its wing & place your birdie where you want, I chose bottom right hand corner. Then raid your embroidery silks…they have a lovely sheen & you can pull out one of the colours in the fabrics print or the colour of the tea towel. Blanket stitch all around, add a small bead or button for its eye & Bob’s your uncle 👍

Works on cheap micro fibre dish cloths too!

About Craft Hill Fabric Artisans

Hi, we are a mother and daughter tea drinking, tattoo wearing duo of crafters. Every Wednesday evening we get together and make beautiful things for friends, family and sometimes ourselves. Helped along the way by sometime models & general pests Izzy the Border Terrier & Archie the Patterdale terrier (spot them in our pic's) We are both living in beautiful Devon but grew up in Norfolk. We call ourselves Fabric Artisans & this has come down through five generations of seamstresses, needle women & crafters of all things fabric.

  1. Super idea for tea towels. I love the fact that it uses up scraps.
